Increase Production Capacity / Reduce Costs

Mower Blade Manufacturing Plant

TW Automation was approached by an industry leading manufacturer about designing two (2) new custom machine tending robotic automation systems to expand production and improve part quality. To meet the customer’s requirements TW Automation’s team of engineers and technical staff designed and integrated two (2) robotic machine tending automation cells into existing equipment at a large mower blade manufacturing plant located in the Midwest.

Goals Of Automation

The goal for each of the new systems was to eliminate the manual labor required for a highly repetitive process, increase production volumes and provide a boost in overall production control. TW Automation integrated FANUC robots with FANUC’s 3D iRVision and Allen Bradley controls into each of the two cells. The other equipment and the required safety were also designed and integrated by TW Automation. Real time data transfer was accomplished using Rockwell’s Factory Talk software on PC platform.

Made in America

US manufacturing continues to gain strength, but there is no rising tide to lift every boat. Defending what you’ve got while seizing new opportunities requires escalating levels of manufacturing efficiency and flexibility. That’s where we come in. TW Automation builds robotic solutions for managing and growing your business. We’ve been delivering turn-key robotic solutions, along with a full range of technical and support services, since 1996.

Automation Process & Benefits

During each operation, the robot completes three work content steps:

  1. The robot identifies and picks a raw material blade from an in-feed cart.
  2. The robot moves the blade to a milling machine. The robot sends a signal to the milling machine to start the milling operation and then both ends of the blade are sharpened to specification; and
  3. The robot neatly stacks each finished blade on an out-feed cart. The new robotic cells can turn out four (4) blades every 60 seconds.

The cells can be programmed to handle over 2,000 different blade styles and types. Estimated ROI payback = 18 Months

TW Automation has successfully implemented solutions for industries across the board over the last 20 years. To learn how we can help you contact us today: 913-303-9700
